Havana, Cuba early December 2019

An amazing cultural immersion, with touring every morning and the evenings filled with film festival screenings and other pursuits (eating in paladars, music, dancing). In addition to participating in the film festival, our itinerary encompasses an architectural tour, meeting artists in their studios, attending a modern dance company's rehearsal at the historic theatre next to the capitol, and lots of films from Central and South America.

Regarding new rules about travel to Cuba: One may still travel directly from the U.S. to Cuba when participating in group people-to-people exchange programs.
Meticulously planned by Talk Cinema Cuban travel experts Harlan and Susan Jacobson to comply with U.S. regulations, this five day, four night immersion puts you in contact with Cubans who are doing extraordinary things. Learn directly from them about their culture, their history and their heritage. During your trip, you’ll savor the flavors of authentic Cuban cuisine, admire the art of Cuban artists, listen to the infectious beat of Cuban music and have access to the international film festival.

Dates will be finalized as soon as film fest schedule is set.

Space on this amazing Talk Cinema-exclusive journey is limited to 14 travelers. Be sure to make your reservations today by calling 914-737-7654 or emailing susan@talkcinema.com

Upon arrival in Cuba, after clearing immigrations and customs, we will be met by our local guides who will take us to check-into our hotel.  We will stop at Revolution Square and Miramar for lunch pending arrival times into Havana.  In the late afternoon your travel hosts will officially welcome you to over cocktails to Cuba with a brief orientation and review of the itinerary.  This evening we will enjoy dinner together and attend the film festival as time permits. The morning starts with a presentation by Rena Perez, an American who has lived in Cuba since the Revolution, will talk about Cuban daily life.  Then, visit Old Havana with our local Cuban guides and our Talk Cinema hosts for a presentation that focuses on the city’s architectural history.   In Habana Vieja, a UNESCO World Heritage site, we’ll soak in the scene at the Plaza de Armas, the city’s oldest square, and see the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, residence of the colonial Spanish governors. Stroll along Havana’s pedestrian-only thoroughfare, Calle Obispo, to meet Cuban entrepreneurs.
Lunch on your own in Old Havana. (Suggestion: Travel back in time and ride in a 1950s classic car through Havana’s neighborhoods.) dinner and movies together. (B,D)

We will tour the Museum of Fine Arts with an art historian.  We will then participate in a salsa class followed by demonstration. We admire the work of Pavel Garcia who has created a combination after school program and Senior Center, Barrio Habana and will visit there.  Another remarkable Cuban to meet is Eduardo Guerra, master print maker, for a visit in his home studio and a demo of his unusual style of printmaking.  Dinner and film festival screenings together this evening.   (B,D)
